Join us for a unique trip that dwelves into one of the most secretive countries on earth: the DPRK and visit the country during it’s liberation day festivities.

HIGHLIGHTS

-Kumsusan Palace of the Sun - The massive mausoleum where the country’s former leaders now lie in State, it’s a place that truly has to be seen to be believed.

-Visit the (De-militiarised Zone) DMZ, Kaesong City and Sariwon City.

-All key Pyongyang sites including museums, massive monuments and local life.

-Optional extension to the lesser-seen border town of Sinuiju.

-The Arch of Triumph- The largest Victory Arch in the world

-Special Liberation Day events: Fireworks, mass dances or special performances.

-Sample a plethora of North Korean cuisine

ITINERARY

Monday 12 th  August

Meet guides at Beijing Zhong Gu Hotel near Beijing Railway Station, receive DPRK visas and tickets. Train takers depart Beijing Central station at 5:25pm for the 24 hour sleeper ride to Pyongyang.

Tuesday 13th  August

DEPARTURE TO NORTH KOREA FROM CHINA

Train group arrives at Dandong at 7:00am for Chinese border control then

depart for Sinuiju at 10:30am for the extensive border control from the DPRK side. Flight takers depart Beijing Airport Terminal 2 on Air Koryo at 12:00pm (Meet group at Air Koryo check in counter). Flight group arrive in Pyongyang at 3:00pm. Train group arrives at 6:45pm

Dinner and overnight at the Yanggakdo Hotel.

Wednesday 14th  August

MANSUDAE MONUMENT THE ARCH OF TRIUMPH JUCHE TOWER

Morning

Walk through Mansudae Fountain Park and see the mosaic pictures of

President Kim Il Sung and the leader Kim Jong Il.

Visit Mansudae Grand Monument – the two large bronze statues of President

Kim Il Sung and Leader Kim Jong Il overlooking the city

Pyongyang Metro! A journey through an amazing underground system

The Arch of Triumph- The largest Victory Arch on the planet, it celebrates the victory over the Japanese and the return of the general Kim Il Sung to his home city.

Afternoon

Lunch at a Korean Hot Pot Restaurant

Juche Tower – The tallest stone tower in the world, it represents the eternally burning Korean Juche Ideology.

Workers Party Foundation Monument – built in 1995 to signify the 50th

anniversary of the Workers Party of Korea.

Visit the Korean Film Studio where we’ll have a chance to dress up in

costume and check out the backdrops of fake locations such as Seoul, China, Japan.

Stop by the local department store – here we can buy locally made items

Dinner and drinks at the Duck BBQ restaurant

Visit Kaeson Funfair – entry 2 euros and ride are 3 – 5 euros.

Overnight at the Yanggakdo hotel.

Thursday 15th  August – LIBERATION DAY

KUMSUSAN PALACE KOREAN WAR MUSEUM KIM IL SUNG SQUARE

Morning

Kumsusan Palace of the sun: Where President Kim Il Sung & Comrade Kim Jong Il lie in state.

Visit Kim Il Sung Square and walk around the largest square in Pyongyang

City.

Afternoon

Lunch at Moran Hill Chicken restaurant.

We’ll take a stroll through Moranbong Park where locals gather to meet,

picnic, drink and dance and then a visit to the Korean War Museum

Visit the USS Pueblo- The only US Naval Ship still held captive by another

nation

Special celebratory events (optional: approx 20 euros) – Yet to be confirmed

but we will take part in any holiday events that are possible for tourists to

attend. These may include a parade, a circus performance, and possibly

some other surprises.

Spectate and/or join in on the Pyongyang university students performing a mass dance near an iconic DPRK monument – fantastic for rare photo

opportunities! Mangyongdae Schoolchildren’s palace: The largest of the schoolchildren’s palaces (extracurricular centers), we observe lessons then watch the amazing performance Stop by Mansugyo Beer Bar – a local bar to join the locals for refreshments. Dinner at KITC Restaurant in Mangyongdae District to try Pyongyang’s famous Cold Noodle Dish or the traditional Korean BiBimBap dish.

Go to Kim Il Sung Square to watch the fireworks over the Taedong River

Overnight at the Yanggakdo hotel.

Friday 16th  August

DMZ KORYO MUSEUM TOMB OF KING KONGMIN

Morning

Early morning drive to Kaesong and the DMZ

Koryo Museum- Korea’s first university and now a museum of history and culture and also home of the best stamp and propaganda poster shops in the DPRK

The DMZ- See one of the tensest places on earth complete with a friendly

KPA officer who will not only give you a guided tour but also keep you safe. Also the only place you can take photographs of and even with a soldier!

Afternoon

Lunch at the Thongil Restaurant in Kaesong City- taste traditional Korean

Pansangi- a series of dishes served in bronze bowls

Tomb of King Kongmin- the only original tomb of it’s kind still standing

Drop by Sariwon City (Capital of North Hwanghae province) to walk in the

local folk custom park and view the city from the mountaintop pagoda.

Visit Makkoli bar in Sariwon to try the traditional Korean fermented rice drink. Photo opportunity of the Monument to the Three Charters of National Reunification. Arrive Pyongyang for a farewell dinner at the National restaurant with a performance!

Overnight at the Yanggakdo hotel.

Saturday 17th  August

DEPARTURE TO CHINA FROM NORTH KOREA

Flight members depart at 8:50 am for Beijing on Air Koryo. (Arriving at 9:50am Beijing time).

Group A & B train members depart at 10:25am. Group A train members will arrive in Beijing Railway Station at 9:00am on Sunday the 18th August.

OPTIONAL TRIP:

Afternoon

Visit the remote village of Dongrim at 2:30pm – Dongrim is the nearest town outside of Sinuiju, located south amongst the valleys of the east coast of the peninsula.

Drive to Dongrim Hotel to check-in and prepare for an afternoon hiking

Hike to Dongrim Waterfall and explore the surrounding valley of the mountain range.

Dinner and overnight at the Dongrim Hotel – a brand new swanky hotel.

Sunday 18th  August

Morning

1-hour drive to Sinuiju city

Visit Sinamri Co-operative farm, tour the Pomhayanggi Cosmetics Factory

Visit the mosaic images of the “Three Tigers of Mt. Paektu” Kim Il Sung, Kim

Jong Il and Kim Jong Suk.

Visit Central Square, see the statue of President Kim Il Sung General Kim

Jong Il

Visit the North Phyongan Province Revolutionary History Museum

Afternoon

Lunch at Myohyangsan Travel Company Restaurant

Head to the local Folklore Park where there may be chances to engage in

traditional Korean activities (extra charges apply) or you can simply walk

around.

Visit the Art Studio which holds over 250 pieces of DPRK fine arts in six large halls Bonbu Kindergarten and performance – Famous for training the Children who perform in the skipping scene of the Arirang Mass

Explore Amnok park and walk down to the Amnok River (Yalu River) and see the original Korean/Chinese Friendship Bridge bombed by the Americans during the Korean War. Very few tourist are able to view the bridge from the DPRK side!

Board the 4:30pm bus and go through Korean customs to finish tour in

Dandong

Board the 6:30pm overnight train from Dandong to Beijing.

Recommended flights:

Please book any flights that are convenient, the meeting point is Beijing Zhong Gu Hotel near Beijing Railway Station ( 12th of August, morning). The best way is to arive in Beijing a day before on 11th of August.

Cancellations:

Please note that unless the trip is cancelled the payments are non-refundable as the costs need to be paid in advance. However, you may be able to sell your place to your friends or other group members.
