Prison Dinner in The Clink-Foodie Adventure
Time & Location
About the event
Have you ever been to prison? Well, now's your chance. HMP Brixton has opened their own restaurant!
Inmates have been trained to cook and carry out front-of-house duties, including serving customers and working in ‘a true-to-life environment’, according to The Clink Charity, which already runs two other prison restaurants, one in HMP Cardiff and the other in HMP High Down in Surrey.
The menu showcases the best in British produce – from venison carpaccio with poached celeriac and chilli chocolate dressing, to stone bass with slow-roasted cherry tomatoes, sweet potato fondant and seasonal vegetables.
Puddings include a celebration of English apples and a selection of British cheese.
With the aim of reducing prisoner reoffending, the charity said inmates with six to 18 months left of their sentences are selected for training to achieve a City & Guilds qualification.
The restaurant is part of a wider resettlement programme at HMP Brixton to drive prisoner rehabilitation through education.
Chris Moore, chief executive of The Clink Charity, said: ‘The launch of The Clink Restaurant at HMP Brixton is a testament to the ongoing success of the charity and its positive influence on the national rehabilitation of prisoners.

Q. Am I safe going into the prison?
A. Yes. It (Restaurant) has been running for 11 years and although inside the Prison, is in a separately controlled area
Q. What else do I need to know?
A, The entry requirements are quite strict. Once you have paid I will send you separately info about it. If you do not follow these instructions, you will be refused entry
Q. What are the timings?
A. We need to meet at the "Clink" Entrance by 6.10 latest. You therefore need to leave work early if you have to and make your way to Brixton. Failure to not get there by 6.15pm will result in refusal of entry into the Prison. If you don't want to go to Prison come after 6.15pm :)
The Clink Charity is unquestionably unique. Based in the UK, it operates fine dining restaurants that are open to the public yet located within working prisons, and manned entirely by prisoners working as chefs, waiters, receptionists and cleaners who receive accredited training in preparation for their release.
Please note that unless the trip is cancelled the payments are non-refundable as the costs need to be paid in advance. However, you may be able to sell your place to your friends or other group members.
