Join us for a weekend of adventure in one of the most beautiful places in the world. We’ll be climbing Snowdon – Yr Wyddfa (1,085 m or 3,560 ft), the highest mountain in Wales and also a hike around a magical lake and reservoir.

Llanberis is the perfect base to stay and explore Snowdonia. It is Snowdon’s village and the gateway to the Snowdonia National Park. It is surrounded by mountains, lakes and rivers and also a short drive from the beautiful coastline.

Breathtaking views are everywhere and the scenery simply stunning! It is a great place from which to explore the magic and beauty of Snowdonia.

Llanberis is also an area rich in history, myths and legends and has a strong cultural heritage. Take a walk around the Slate quarries of Llanberis and you will easily take yourself back in time to imagine when this area roofed the world! Or further back still, imagine when the whole valley was covered in snow and ice which shaped and carved this beautiful landscape which is yours to explore.

Llyn Crafnant – A Magical Lake Hike

Snowdonia was shaped through the ice age leaving behind the classic rugged steep-sided mountains we see and hidden valleys containing Lakes or Llyns. This is an opportunity to visit most probably one of the most beautiful hidden lakes in Snowdonia.

Llyn Crafnant lake is three-quarters of a mile long and lies in a beautiful valley where the northern edge of Gwydir Forest meets the lower slopes of the Carneddau mountains. At the head of Llyn Crafnant is one of the finest views in North Wales, across the lake to the mountains above. We will catch a local bus from our hostel down to Capel Curig to start our walk.

The walk is on well-made paths through open access moorland and forests giving excellent views of the surrounding mountains including Yr Wyddfa and Moel Siabod. We will climb 150m to our highest point of 340m giving superb views of Llyn Crafnant and the surrounding area.

We will continue onto the lake before making our way back via the shelter of Gwydir Forest passing Llyn Bach or “Small Lake” on the way. On our return to Capel Curig we should have time to explore the local amenities, browse through Joe Browns Outdoor Equipment Shop, have a coffee and cake in the excellent Moel Siabod afé or quench your thirst in Bryn Tyrch Inn before catching our bus back to our hostel.
