MALHAM TARN AND COVE
After breakfast, we begin a guided hike starting and finishing at Malham to explore the beautiful countryside of the surrounding area. Highlights of the walk will include the tranquil Malham Tarn and the famous Malham Cove.
We’ll initially take paths that lead to Janet’s Foss – a pretty waterfall in a woodland setting.
We’ll then move on, and gradually make our way up the hillside on a stony path up onto a lane that leads towards the scenic lake, and nature reserve called Malham Tarn.
Following part of the Pennine Way path through stunning limestone scenery, we’ll eventually arrive at the top of the famous Malham Cove – a huge, curved limestone cliff, and then we’ll take the steep path down the side of it to view this magnificent geological feature from below.
The walk is about 19 km/12 miles with approx 470 metres of ascent/descent. Some of the terrains are rough and stony, and parts could be a little bit muddy depending on the weather.
Dinner at accommodation or local Pub/Restaurant.
Day 3: April 12th, Sunday
RIBBLESDALE, CATRIGG FORCE AND WARRENDALE KNOTTS
A guided walk to explore the scenic area to the northeast of the town of Settle.
Heading northwards from Settle, we follow part of the ‘Pennine Journey’ path through typical Yorkshire Dales countryside, passing through the villages of Langcliffe and Stainforth in Ribblesdale.
We then join part of the Pennine Bridleway route to visit the beautiful Catrigg Force waterfall. Next, it’s over moorland, passing areas of limestone pavement into the valley where we take a look at a couple of interesting caves set into the side of the impressive Attermire Scar limestone cliffs.
The caves are called Jubilee Cave and Victoria Cave. One of the highlights of the walk comes towards the end when we ascend the hill called Warrendale Knotts, with stunning views over the surrounding countryside.
The walk will be about 8 miles/ 13 km with about 500 metres of ascent/descent.
Dinner at accommodation or local Pub/Restaurant.
